Welcome back for another exciting school year! I hope you’re off to a great start and all your classroom procedures are set and your ensembles are up and rolling! We have so much in store for you in this fall’s TRIAD. We have news from many of our committees and allied organizations, along with featured articles in band, orchestra, and general music in addition to a mentoring article about our role in passing the torch to the next generation of teachers. We also pay tribute to former OMEA President, Nancy Ditmer.
Be sure to check out the Adjudicated Events news so you can be up to date on all the news and changes in AE. It was a busy summer for OMEA – the staff and trustees met this summer to plan and reflect on all we have accomplished over the past couple years and for continued improvements and growth. The leadership academy worked with new and potential leaders to share how we can grow as an organization and encourage new leaders to get involved. Our Ohio contingent was strong at Hill Day in Washington, D.C. - you can read about their experiences in Danielle Shaub’s advocacy update in this issue.

Would you like to be a part of the next issue of TRIAD? There are multiple ways you can contribute and we’d love to hear from you!
  • Submit an article: Share a technique or project that has worked well for you! All areas can share articles so we have a diverse representation in TRIAD. You can include video clips, photos, and links to make your article even more effective and useful for our members.
  • Share your activities: Did you have a special event, guest, or concert? Share a few sentences and some photos or video clips so we can show each other all the exciting music making that is happening throughout the state! We will feature these entries in our “Teaching in Action” section.
  • Share your Photos - Using the same form as Share Your Activities you can simply share a photo (or several) of your groups – let us know what the group is and we can recognize your group in TRIAD. Please check that students in the photos have photo release permissions before submitting photos.
  • NEW – Sharing Sound Strategies – Do you have a great lesson plan or teaching strategy you can share? Any discipline can submit a Sharing Sound Strategies lesson. (See BethAnn Hepburn’s Sharing Sound Strategies: General Music in this issue for an example!) You can submit this in the “submit an article” section of the webpage and just name it Sharing Sound Strategies along with your discipline.
I hope you enjoy this issue of TRIAD and that you get ideas you can include in your teaching. Have a great fall and don’t forget the deadline for the winter issue of TRIAD is January 31! Thanks for all you do for your students and for OMEA!
