Adjudicated Events Updates and Information for the 2026-27 School Year

Greetings from the Adjudicated Events Committee! We hope your school year is off to a great start, and we are excited to facilitate another year of educationally rewarding adjudicated events all across Ohio. OMEA saw great numbers at all adjudicated events in 2026, including our highest Large Group participation since COVID, and we hope to build on those successes in 2027!

Some updates for the 2027 AE Season:

  • After a very successful pilot of adding clinics to JH S&E events in D10 and D15 last spring, we are excited to offer this new opportunity across the state. Most Districts (all but 4) have chosen to add the clinics to their JH event.
    • Directors can decide for each performance if they want the clinic: just tell the adjudicator when you enter the room if you want a clinic.
    • Clinic site performance slots are all 10 minutes instead of 8 (even if you opt out of the clinic).
    • Please explain to your performer(s) before the event that a short clinic will happen at the end of their performance so they know what to expect.
    • Directors should stay for the clinic, but string/wind/percussion accompanists may leave if there are schedule constraints. Vocal accompanists should stay for the clinic.
  • Remember, we want your help with suggestions for S&E and LG required list selections. If you know a piece that would be a good addition to an OMEA required list, please give us your suggestions via the website: Top of Member Dashboard: Feedback -> Required List Suggestion Form.
  • Band Sight Reading: After a successful pilot of using the UIL sightreading curriculum at last year’s Large Group, we are now entering our second year of this trial. Our goal is to provide directors and students with a more standardized expectation of what sight reading will entail year over year for each class, less esoteric and reduced percussion section requirements, and slightly shorter selections to allow more time for verbal adjudicator feedback in the room. After this year, we will evaluate the past two year’s data and decide on our long-term path. We would love to hear your feedback as we navigate this process.

Reminders:

  • Registrations will now be due on the Wednesday four and a half weeks prior to the event by 5:00 PM! If a registration deadline falls on a holiday, the deadline will be moved to 5:00 pm on the next business day. Please be sure to confirm all of your district’s/region’s events on the official OMEA Calendar.
  • The deadline for Out of District requests for HS Choir/Band LG and Out of Region requests for HS Orchestra is January 1st.
  • The deadline for Out of District requests for JH Orchestra/Choir/Band LG is March 1st, unless your District combines JH Large Group with the HS LG event.
  • The deadline for Out of Region requests for state Choir/Band LG is March 16th.
