The American String Teachers Association (ASTA) Outstanding Student Chapter Award honors a collegiate student chapter that is actively involved in promoting strings at their school and in their surrounding community. The chapter must represent themselves through activities and performances both on and off campus, and demonstrate their impact on string education and the string profession. ASTA at Ohio State, led by Dr. Heather Lofdahl, received the 2026 Outstanding Student Chapter Award at the ASTA National Conference in San Francisco, CA in February.

The Music Education area continues to partner with WOSU Public Media to present IMMERSE — interactive, sensory-friendly concerts for children ages 6-12 who are autistic, and their families. Overseen by Dr. David Hedgecoth, School of Music students share hour-long performance sessions where attendees can interact with the music and the musicians through art, music and movement activities.
