Every fall, our choirs present a cherished tradition known as “Sacred Music for Sacred Spaces.” This annual concert is held in a local church and celebrates both the beauty of sacred music and the unique acoustics such spaces provide. This year’s performance, held on Sunday, October 5 at St. John’s Church in Lima, featured not only our choirs but also our orchestras. Together, we collaborated on two pieces for choir and orchestra, creating a wonderful experience for students and audience alike.

The program included both classical and contemporary works—from Bruckner, Schubert, and Vivaldi to Clausen, Leavitt, and Gjeilo—offering a rich variety of styles and sounds. The church’s stunning acoustics elevated the experience for both performers and audience members, making it an afternoon filled with inspiration and beauty.
Students reflected on the impact of the setting, noting the “echo” and the warmth of the audience’s response. One student shared, “When we sang, I was amazed at how our voices filled the entire room.” Another added, “I really enjoyed singing in the church; the space was beautiful and had amazing architecture that made the whole experience feel special. The acoustics were wonderful, and it felt inspiring to sing there.
