As I sit down to write this message, I can’t help but reflect on the changing seasons—both in nature and in our choral classrooms. Winter’s challenges are behind us, and spring brings a renewed energy as we guide our singers through final performances, adjudicated events, and celebrations of their growth.
Having had the pleasure of attending the ACDA National Conference in Dallas, Texas, I find myself reflecting on the profound impact of this incredible gathering of choral musicians. The sessions were thought-provoking, offering fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that challenged and energized me as an educator. The performances—both amateur and professional—were among the finest I have ever experienced, showcasing artistry at the highest level. The concerts left me both inspired and, in some ways, deflated, as I was reminded of the immense potential of choral music and the ever-present desire to grow and refine my own work. Most importantly, it was a chance to connect with fellow choral colleagues—to share ideas, celebrate successes, and support one another in our shared passion for choral music.

Now is the time to look ahead, not just to summer break, but to opportunities for our own professional development. I invite you to join us for the Ohio Choral Directors Association Summer Conference, June 23–25 at Capital University, right in our own backyard. This year’s OCDA conference theme, Optimize, Cultivate, Develop, Achieve, reflects our commitment to maximizing our potential as educators, fostering growth in our choirs, and striving for excellence in all we do. This inspiring event offers engaging sessions, outstanding performances, and the chance to connect with fellow choral professionals.

Our distinguished clinicians this year are Dr. Tracy Wong, Dr. Kristina MacMullen, and Dr. Jamie Lercher.

  • Dr. Kristina Caswell MacMullen is the Mary Gibbs Jones Chair in Music and Director of Choral Activities at Baylor University, where she conducts the A Cappella Choir and Chamber Singers.
